2d restaurant is Chicago’s first hand-drawn café — a playful, black-and-white world where food and art come together. Inspired by our Asian roots, we’re passionate about sharing the joy and richness of Asian culture through immersive dining, creative workshops, and storytelling.
Whether it’s a mochi donut or a night market, everything we do celebrates tradition with a fresh, modern twist.
🍩 Donut Decorating Class
Young chefs will learn all the steps needed to decorate delicious mochi donuts with all sorts of colorful toppings and hands-on guidance from the 2d donut decorator.
🥬 2d Spring Roll Workshop
Roll fresh Vietnamese-style spring rolls using vibrant veggies, rice paper, and optional protein add-ins. You'll also create your own dipping sauces and decorate your plate using edible garnishes.
🎒 2d Backpack Making
Craft your very own cartoon-style backpack! Using black-and-white fabric markers and iron-on patches, you'll turn a plain canvas bag into a one-of-a-kind creation inspired by our 2d world.

🖌️ 2d Calligraphy Workshop
Discover the basics of traditional Chinese brush calligraphy in a relaxed, hands-on setting. You'll learn how to hold the brush, practice key strokes, and write characters like your name or lucky phrases.
🥟 2d Dumpling Workshop
Learn the art of Asian dumpling making — from rolling wrappers to folding different dumpling shapes. We'll cover classic fillings and teach fun ways to plate and photograph them in our 2d-themed space. It's part cooking class, part cultural experience.

Join Chef Kevin Yu, acclaimed Pan-Asian chef and creator of 2d restaurant, for hands-on workshops and immersive cultural events. From mochi donut decorating and dumpling making to calligraphy and museum-style exhibits, every activity is a playful dive into Asian food, art, and storytelling.
Perfect for kids, families, and curious creatives — each guest walks away with something fun, flavorful, and unforgettable.
I designed this class with my love and hope that my son will learn and get first-hand experience of this fun and cultural activity. Now I'm so excited to show our junior chefs how much fun the art of donut-making can be!
Donut classroom materials
Comic book style hand-drawn chef hat and adjustable apron will be provided for in-class use
food and beverage
Each participant will receive
(x1) Fully decorated Donuts to taste prior to class activities
(x3) Plain Mochi Donuts to decorate on
full meal (for kids and parents) - optional
Kid Meals and beverages will be available for pre-ordering. We encourage young chefs to eat before the experience.

Q: Is there room available for parents?
A: Parents are invited to purchase tickets and join their kids in practicing the art of making mochi donuts.
If you're not participating and the class is full, a section of the restaurant will be designated as a 'Waiting Area' for parents. If there is available space, parents can also sit with the junior chefs. Please inquire with our on-site team upon arrival.
